Dr Zaid Ardalan is a gastroenterologist with particular interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and functional gut disorders.

He completed his physician training at the Austin hospital in Melbourne in 2013. Zaid carried out his first two years of gastroenterology training at the Austin and Monash Hospitals.

He subsequently secured a highly coveted fellowship in Oxford University Hospital in Inflammatory Bowel Disease working under the supervision of Professor Simon Travis who is one of the world-leading experts in IBD. While in Oxford he had numerous publications in high impact journals and was an investigator in numerous clinical trials.

Zaid strongly believes that every patient has the right to receiving the best care based on state of the art medicine, which is why he annually attends international and national conferences in gastroenterology, endoscopy and hepatology. Furthermore, to further develop his clinical and research skills he is currently doing a second fellowship at the Austin Hospital and will be starting a higher degree (PhD) at the Alfred Hospital with Professor Peter Gibson in 2018 which revolves around assessing the utility of dietary measures in treating some aspects of IBD.

Finally, Zaid appreciates that the complexity of present day medicine precludes one single person from mastering clinical skills in all aspects of gastroenterology. He shares this vision amongst his colleagues Dr. Simon Hew and Dr. Abhinav Vasudevan. He also maintains excellent relationships with colleagues across Australia who are experts in their field and even continues to consult his seniors and colleagues from Oxford when faced with very complicated cases.

"Patients put their trust in us to address their issues. It's our responsibility to use all the resources we have to achieve this; and second, third and even fourth opinions are what we should do if necessary to make a diagnosis or treat a disease "is one of the core principles that Zaid, Simon and Abhinav share.

He is extremely excited to bring these principles of practice, commitment to patients and appetite for research to Pakenham.
