Dr Simon Hew
Dr. Simon Hew is a gastroenterologist with a special interest in interventional endoscopy. He graduated with a Bachelor of Surgery/Bachelor of Medicine as well as a Bachelor of Medical Science from Monash University in 2008, both with honours. He was awarded the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) Award on graduation, achieving the highest score in clinical medicine.
Simon completed his advanced gastroenterology training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Austin Hospital and at Monash Health, gaining a vast exposure to all areas of gastroenterology including transplant hepatology, pancreaticobiliary disease, inflammatory bowel disease and functional gut disorders. He is currently undertaking a second year of fellowship subspecialising in interventional endoscopy, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and complex polypectomy.
Simon has presented at international conferences and published research widely, including in prestigious journals such as Plos One, Endoscopy and the Medical Journal of Australia. He is actively involved with professional bodies and continuing education and currently serves on the RACP Fellow’s Committee and the RACP podcast editorial board.
Simon is passionate about excellent communication, providing patient-centred care and offering practical suggestions in patient management. Outside of work, Simon enjoys spending time with his fiance Laura, working on his tennis backhand and keeping his gut stimulated in Melbourne’s restaurants.
